Forgiveness

The bible says that Peter asked Jesus how many time he should forgive this is seen in Matthew 18:21-22 AMPC

Then Peter came up to Him and said, Lord, how many times may my brother sin against me and I forgive him and let it go? [As many as] up to seven times? Jesus answered him, I tell you, not up to seven times, but seventy times seven! [Gen. 4:24.]

This part of the bible is talking about forgiveness and he says in one day we should forgive someone 70 times 7, it is highly impossible for someone to offend you 490 times in one day. So the question one might ask is what is Jesus trying to tell us?

Jesus is saying that you should forgive people no matter the circumstances or the offence, and the best person to ask for help in such circumstances is the Holy Spirit. On our own forgiveness would be very difficult but with the Holy Spirit’s help we would get peace of mind and the ability to forgive easily and willingly. God knows how hard forgiveness can be that is why he gave us the Holy Spirit so that we never walk that part alone.

God is asking us to forgive not because the person is blameless but for our peace of mind. Forgiveness has nothing to do with the offender or offence, he knows that when you keep offences in your heart it can lead to bitterness, rage and anger. All this emotions are not healthy emotions one should ,have that is why he has asked us to let go off the offence.

It can also affect our Spiritual life as Christians by blocking our blessings from God, so as Christians we should make it a point to practice forgiveness despite the situation we find ourselves in. On our quest to be like Jesus in this Christian walk we must practice forgiveness.
